Kai Stania

The Viennese designer Kai Stania is characterised by his breadth – his design work includes home and office furniture, outdoor furniture, industrial design and architecture for exhibition stands. His strength is the perfect symbiosis he is able to create between aesthetics and functionality. An array of international and national awards are evidence of his perfect control over the art of good design. These include the White Star prize, Red Dot Awards and the IF-Product Design Award.

Kai Stania was born in 1965 in Salzburg and completed his study of architecture at the Vienna University of Technology in 1990 with honours. He also studied product design in Ron Arad’s master class at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Stania has worked in furniture design for TEAM 7 and Wittmann, and he has designed accessories for Cerruti, Ungaro and Cacharel. Stania has been significantly involved in the design and development of most product lines at Bene since 1996. In 2002 the architect and designer established his own design studio, kai stania I product design.

Stania designed, among other things, the AL-Management series for Bene, which was featured in the James Bond film “Quantum of Solace”. AL stands out for its prominent use of aluminium as a symbol of effortlessness and high-tech character. Items in the AL series are also distinguished by their clarity and the way they are pared down to the bare essentials as well as by their exceptional details and superior quality of construction.

Good design defines and specifies something without restricting its possibilities.
